De IJslandse kunstschilder Arnor Bieltvedt
Galerie Beeldkracht
exposeert de schilderijen van de IJslandse kunstschilder Arnor
Bieltvedt permanent in de eigen galerie en vertegenwoordigt hem
tevens met regelmaat op de Nederlandse Kunstbeurzen.
In 2009 staat, net als op de Open Art Fair van 2008, een presentatie van de nieuwste schilderijen van
Arnor Bieltvedt op het programma op de Open Art Fair in Utrecht.
De kunstenaar brengt medio juni 2009 speciaal een bezoek aan
Nederland om samen met galeriehouder Sander Kletter deze
beurspresentatie en de beurspresentatie in december op de 28ste
editie van Lineart voor te bereiden. Eind 2008 exposeerde Arnor Bieltvedt zijn
schilderijen voor het eerst solo bij de galerie.

Arnor Bieltvedt, tegenwoordig woonachtig in het zonnige Californië is in de eerste plaats altijd nog geïnspireerd door de pure natuur van zijn vaderland IJsland, en meer in het algemeen door zijn woonomgeving en door de dingen, die hij zelf als mens meemaakt. Hij uit zich op expressionistische wijze met olieverf, in combinatie met andere materialen en weet 'de levende hartslag van de natuur', zoals hij dat zelf omschrijft, om te zetten in schilderijen. Zijn schilderijen lijken inderdaad net zo ruig en puur
als het ongerepte land IJsland zelf, waarin bergen, rotsen, wind en waterkracht overheersen. Zijn schilderstijl, het feit dat hij uit het barre Noorden komt en het feit dat de kunstenaar zijn eigen
zieleroerselen en die van de mensheid weergeeft, doen denken aan een beroemde Skandinavische voorganger Edvard
Munch.

Een interessante vergelijking laat zich ook maken met de bekende en ongrijpbare IJslandse popster
Björk. Zij zingt, echter in een oude traditie van pratend zingen uit vervlogen tijden van de oud Keltische en Skandinavische cultuur. Het idee kwam in mij op dat ook Arnor Bieltvedt zo lijkt te schilderen, in flarden, soms elementen uit verhalen weergevend, soms herinneringen en verlangen naar puurheid en harmonie in ritmes. Misschien is zijn werk niet altijd voorspelbaar of gemakkelijk volgbaar, op het eerste gezicht ook niet volgens academisch geaccepteerde opgestelde regels geschilderd, maar
Munch, Björk en Bieltvedt bezitten de speciale gave en oerkracht anderen te ontroeren en in de ziel te raken...

About the painter Arnor Bieltvedt
|
|
|
Arnor G. Bieltvedt grew up in Iceland. After graduating from high school he moved to Germany. He lived in Munich and Augsburg for three years and received his Vordiplom in Economics and Social Sciences from the University of Augsburg. Arnor was eager to experience new cultures and moved to the United States to continue his studies. He attended Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI, where he received a B.S. degree in Marketing and a M.S. degree in Managerial
Technology. |

But allthough he had begun a career in the field of Economics, he decided to devote his life to art. With great joy and enthusiasm he started his studies over
again, gaining a B.F.A. in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design in
Providence, RI and a M.F.A. in Painting from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. After completing his Art studies, Arnor spent seven years as Art Department Head and Art Instructor at Logos School in St. Louis, MO followed by five years as Art Department
Head, Art Instructor and Gallery Director at North Shore Country Day School in
Winnetka, IL. After returning to Germany in the Summer of 2006 and living there for 10
months, Arnor moved back to the USA. He accepted the position of Visual Arts Department Chair and Art Teacher at Polytechnic School in
Pasadena, California. Since moving to Pasadena, Arnor has joined the Gardens Art Guild at the Huntington Library and Botanical
Gardens. These worldfamous gardens will serve as new inspiration for Arnor's expressionistic
floral-landscapes. In 2007 Galerie Beeldkracht has become his main respresentative for
Europe, especially for The Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.
In the last decade Arnor's artwork has been shown extensively in the US and
Europe. He has enjoyed representation by many reputable galleries around the
world. Arnor Bieltvedt has had a lot of succes and his paintings, drawings and prints reside in private and public collections in the USA, Europe and
Asia. Its a great honour for him that Vigdis Finnbogadottir, former President of
Iceland, has become a collector of his work in 2007 as well. His paintings were allready in the collections of former foreign Minister of
Iceland, Jon Baldvin Hannibalsson, the ambassadors of Iceland in Finland,
Austria, China, England, Belgium, the United States and Japan, as well as in the collection of The Reykjavik Museum,
Iceland, the collection of former Starbucks C.E.O. Orin Smith in
Seattle, Washington, and in the collection of The University of
Augsburg, Germany.

Statement
by Arnor Bieltvedt
After exploring various styles and philosophies of painting for over
a decade I suddenly feel like I have found my home or my style of
expression. Iceland, the island in the North Atlantic
where I grew up has returned to my consciousness and imagination and
in the process opened up many doors. The beauty of Iceland
's atmospheric, surreal landscape, where stillness prevails but
the heartbeat of living nature can also be felt and heard is an
ideal setting for strong color expression. The most perfect
natural carrier of color is the flower and I feel the attraction it
has to the space, soil and air of these still, Nordic
landscapes. This is unspoiled nature and reflects the unspoiled pure
aspect of humanity; probably something worth seeking....

Arnor Bieltvedt's "By the Sea," 30" x 40", mixed media and
oils, painted in 2008.
The paintings by Pasadena artist, Arnor Bieltvedt, will be featured in a solo exhibition in the internationally renowned Galerie Beeldkracht in
Scheemda, the Netherlands. Arnor's paintings are influenced by his childhood memories of the spectacular Icelandic landscape and folklore, as well as a newfound appreciation for the exotic beauty of Southern
California.
Arnor relies on the power of intuition and imagination in his
work. His painting technique is reminiscent of the direct, open and flexible approach of the Abstract
Expressionists. Arnor's unique painting technique incorporates the novel use of paint rollers and permanent markers and building of depth and texture through the initial use of acrylic paint layers and
stains, followed by finishing touches in oils. His paintings invoke an unfolding topography of a cool Nordic landscape inhibited by exotic Southern California
flowers.

The Icelandic artist, Arnor G. Bieltvedt, is currently taking part in a group show at Galerie Beeldkracht in Scheemda in Groningen in the Netherlands. The show marks the 10 year anniversary of the gallery. It was opened the 5th of July and will run until the end of the month. Most of the participants are from the Netherlands. All of Arnor's paintings are floral landscapes based on his childhood memories of Icelandic nature. The photograph displays one of his paintings, painted in mixed media on canvas. |
